In light of the rather large and expensive projects already underway (parking lot paving and lighting, and roof repairs) we thought to keep this year’s projects at the modest level but focused on security and safety needs. This year our parish finance council has endorsed the following projects:
Summer Project” Change
The past six years have witnessed a number of improvements to our parish campuses through your generous support of our annual summer project. Each year a specific “project” is identified and endorsed by our finance council.
Last summer, part of the project proposed was the installation of canopies over doors of the office, sacristy and East State Street entrances of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. As plans for the installation were considered, we were faced with a number of issues: the designs were unsuitable and alternatives too costly. In addition, we confronted unforeseen issues with the need for mold remediation in the rectory and parish office due to water infiltration. We need to “seal” any leaks in the basement of both the church and rectory and are looking to take care of this issue as soon as the weather permits. The school cafeteria (basement level) is also experiencing water infiltration problems that must be corrected, but happily there is no indication of mold there.
Our finance council views these new developments as a priority and recommended that any funds for canopies be applied to correcting the water and mold problems. We trust that this change meets with your approval and we thank you for your understanding.
Repairs to Church Steps At first glance the steps appear fine, but the granite blocks need to be repositioned to repel water, and the joints repointed. Sections of the concrete must be leveled to remedy any potential safety hazards.
Door Replacement Replacing a side door will enhance our security and appearance, and complete the door replacement process begun years ago.
