The Holy Season of Lent is observed this year from Ash Wednesday (March 2) until Holy Thursday (April 14). The Bishops of the United States have prescribed that this season be marked by more intense prayer, works of charity, and penance. Among these are the practices of fasting and abstinence. This way, you can read along, keeping your participation in the liturgy strong, even separated by distance from the physical celebration. Please also remember to make a spiritual communion at the appropriate time during the liturgy. The prayer for that is also found on this website.
The Diocesan Chrism Mass will be celebrated by His Excellency, The Most Reverend David M. O’Connell, on Monday, April 15, at 7:30 pm, at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, Freehold. At this special Mass, the priests of the diocese will renew the promises made at their ordination, and the holy oils used for the sacraments are consecrated by the bishop. Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land. In these times of crisis, the wars, unrest, and instability have been especially hard on Christians. The Pontifical Good Friday Collection provides humanitarian aid to refugees, among other things (see the full article). Please be generous!
This means that all Catholics 18 to 59 years of age are restricted to one full meal. Two lesser meals are permitted. All Catholics over 14 years of age must abstain from meat (and soup or gravy made from meat).
