The solicitude of the Mother of the Savior is solicitude for the work of salvation, the work of her Son, for the eternal salvation of all mankind...Since that 13th day of May, 1917, it is difficult not to see how this saving love of the Mother embraces our century with its rays in a special manner. We understand the whole message of the Lady of Fatima in the light of motherly love.
What directly sets itself up against man’s movement toward God is sin, perseverance in sin, and finally, negation of God—the programmed cancellation of God from the world of human thought—detachment of all man’s earthly activity from him.
Can the Mother remain silent? No, she cannot. Hence, the message of Fatima, so maternal, is strong and decisive at the same time. It seems severe. It calls for penance. It warns. It calls for prayer. It recommends the Rosary. All the individuals of our time are the object of its concern, and with them societies, nations and peoples.
