"Modern man listens more readily to witnesses than to teachers, and if he listens to teachers it is because they are witnesses." This observation of Blessed Paul VI came to mind as I reflected on the fact that Marlane Schreier, our second grade teacher and Ann Diken, longtime aide, have announced their intention to retire at the end of this school year. Both have been not only educators...but witnesses!
The influence of Miss Schreier looms large in the history of our parish school. A life time parishioner and an alumna of our schoool, Our Lady of Sorrows School has been Miss Schreier's sole teaching position over forty years! In addition to imparting to our youngest students the fundamentals so necessary for their intellectual development, Miss Schreier has been a dedicated catechist for the children in the preparation for First Penance and Holy Communion!
Ann Diken has been a very generous teacher's aide in Kindergarten, Grade 2, and 7 for 18 years. Always willing to help, Mrs. Diken carries out her duties with kindness and good humor.
Our parish is indeed indebted to these wonderful educators! We wish them the very best as they begin a new chapter in life!
