Easter Blessings from Our Lady of Sorrows School! Every wish to enjoy the beauty of this day! The Easter weather forecast is secure—God reigns, the Son rises! As we gather as a church community, may we offer our best wishes to the two classes of seventh grade students who received their OLS class rings after the school Mass on Thursday April 10. Monsignor celebrated this special liturgy, planned and supported by our seventh graders. They expressed their joy as Catholics in their readings and song. Our OLS Select Choir was on hand to offer their voices in praise. The parents assembled smiled as many eyes clouded with a tear. Each student approached the altar as their name was called to receive Monsignor's best wishes and to receive their blessed rings.
The tradition of class rings lives on at OLS Catholic School. This symbol represents their accomplishments and solidifies their connection to a school community that has shaped their future lives. Pope Francis reminded us in his message of November 4, 2013, that "The hand is a sign of welcome and protection. It is a sign of a personal relationship of respect and faithfulness..." Truly, these rings represent all of this to these outstanding students. They wear on their hands the symbol of their efforts and accomplishments. After Mass the children celebrated in a luncheon hosted by their class parents. Of course, as they exited the church the ring turning for luck had already begun! Thinks back to those memories when you were in school. They are still alive and well and thriving at OLS!
Along with tradition and outstanding learning opportunities, our students excel on the ball fields! The Lady Knights were back in action defending their 2013 CYO Championship Title when they competed against Saint Raphael's. The Lady Knights won, 5-1. The scoring opened when rookie Paige Foerter scored with a left footed smoker past the net minder. Moments later, Grace Goepfert followed that up with her first goal of the season. Julia Rossi got in on the action with her first, followed by rookie Nina Burden. Grace Goepfert scored again late in the second half to cap the Lady Knights' night with five goals. Way to go, girls!
They then took on Saint Paul's within days. Unlike the offensive game on opening night, the Lady Knights relied on great defense this time to secure a 2-0 win! Net minder Katie Squindo did not see much action as the defensive play by Rheanna Bromwell, Jada Mack, and Katie Boytis, backed by a platoon of Madyson Kaczorowski, Madison Roberts, and Lauren Wright held St. Paul's offense down to just a few shots on goal. Offensive goals by the Lady Knights were scored by Julia Rossi and Paige Foerter. The Knights are red hot and off to a fast 2-0 start. Great job OLS Girls Soccer!
