During the summer months, when life becomes more casual than usual, I encourage everyone to be attentive to their attire for Mass. It is a way of witnessing our belief that at Mass, a formal act of worship, we encounter the Lord.
While the Lord certainly knows the intentions of the heart, we should be concerned with the message our appearance conveys to our fellow parishioners and guests. Is modesty not a virtue that has its practical aspect? Is beachwear the best choice for Sunday worship? Do I edify my fellow parishioners by choosing attire more appropriate for a workout at the gym?
Just something to ponder during the hazy-lazy days of summer!
