The cold weather has definitely been a challenge our students! Between the freezing temperatures, the ice, and the snow, the kids have had to stay inside for recess. As the thaw finally began on Wednesday, it was time to get outside and use up some of that energy. As you can see from the smiling faces below, everyone was happy to see the sun – especially the teachers!
January is a busy month in the school. The Teacher’s Clubs have been quite a success so far. The STEM club capitalized on our weather pattern and made snowmen from marshmallows, pretzels, paper, and assorted other tidbits. The mathematical component allowed spending a certain amount on these supplies, so the competition became a little fierce when it came down to who could spend the least amount but have a quality, free-standing snowman. Here’s a picture of “George Marshington”—he wasn’t the least expensive, but he definitely had some stature!
The Jazz Club and Qui Chong Club each had a strong showing too. What a joy it is to watch our kids learn new things, make friends from other grades, and just have a good time! They are excited about staying after school to do something new, and the teachers are truly making OLS a great place to be a kid.
January also means we begin thinking about registering for next year. Over the next few weeks there will be more information about registering for the Fall of 2018, so if you know anyone with school age children, please tell them about the wonderful things occurring in our school. Catholic Schools Week begins January 28 with our Open House, so spread the word!
Each day our students strive to fulfill the direct commandment from our loving God “love your neighbor as yourself.” I see this in action when I am in the cafeteria, walking the halls, and on the playground. I cherish my daily interaction with each child, and love to observe how they take care of each other. I am filled with hope and joy as we move into 2018, and am committed to advancing the mission of our school. Continue to keep us in your prayers, as you are in mine.
