A routine, limited scope financial audit was undertaken at our parish on the FYE (Fiscal Year Ending) 6.30/15. The audit focused on Mass Collections and other receipts. Mr. Rowell Reyes, CPA, diocesan auditor, conducted the review and found that the parish satisfies the diocesan "internal controls: which have been established to safeguard the parish assets and enhance the accuracy and reliability of the accounting records."
The only "action item" mentioned was that two members, rather than one member of our counting teams sign the collection tally sheets. This has been implemented.
The audit report also highlights the following:
The accounting system is properly maintained in both church and school.
The Finance Council is in compliance with diocesan norms. The council met ten times in FY 2015 with minutes properly recorded.
Parishioners were provided an annual report as required.
Cash receipts and disbursement transactions were all properly recorded and provided a good "audit trail."
Parish investment philosophy is in accordance with diocesan directives.
Outside accountant (Cohn Reznick LLC) reviews bank reconciliations on a quarterly basis.
All fixed assets are properly recorded and insured.
I express my thanks to our office staff and to our finance council for their contributions to this excellent report.
