What's new at Our Lady of Sorrows School? Well of course, there is something exciting happening every day! Ask one of our upper elementary students to talk about their recent visit to the NJ State Police Museum. This gem of a museum is right in our back yard, and many of us don't take advantage of it. The children in Grades 3 - 5 made a stop after visiting Villa Victoria Academy. They enjoyed the self-tour, and the staff at the State Police arranged for them to have an enjoyable lunch and visit the beautiful grounds.
Prayer is an important aspect of life at OLS School. Student Prayer Services and Liturgies are an opportunity for our entire school to come together. Each month we recognize the people (both students and staff) who have taken A footstep in Our Faith. A special box sits in our Main Office. It contains the names of those who have "taken a step to show us the way of our faith." How have they shown us the way, you ask? Well, think about the times that you may have really needed that smile from someone walking past. Perhaps, it was the person who stopped to help when something dropped from your hands! Yes, these are times that we remember who we are as Christians and how we need to see the face of Jesus in our neighbors. Join us at 11:30 a.m. on Holy Thursday (April 17) in the school gym. See the smiles of surprise as they hear their names called and race to the middle of the floor. The children show us the way and remind us each day who we are as Catholics. Find the time to join us on Friday afternoons for Stations of the Cross. We pray together as either elementary or upper school students. It's inspiring to pray with our young people. Join us.
Our After School Program (ASP) is also an important place to remember prayer. On St. Joesph's Day, Francesca Gioe, our program director, ordered bread shaped in the letter "J". Monsignor Gervasio gathered the children around the loaves of bread while he reminded us of the lessons that we can learn from the life of St. Joesph. Of course, after he blessed the bread the children enjoyed it as an afternoon treat! We sent our pictures to The Monitor. Be sure to read the upcoming issues and check out our pictures. One afternoon last week one of our ASP students had a bit of a tear as her mom arrived to bring her home. When asked, "Why so sad?" she responded, "I wanted to stay to enjoy ASP a little longer." Her mom said, "I'm so glad that she is enjoying school programs so much, but no how should I feel? I have some real competition now!"
