It was a wonderful Catholic Schools Week, and now we are back to the reality of learning! Our STEM after school club created quite an engineering feat this week. The students had to stack red cups, starting with one cup on the bottom and increasing in number as the stack grew, and then design a catapult to knock them over. As always, the level of competition increased as the stacks grew, and you can tell from the picture that this was a fun way to spend a cold winter afternoon with friends!
Kindergarten continues to enjoy learning the sounds of their letters, and they had some dancing fun learning the short “i” sound by learning to dance to the Twist! Mrs. Sheppard and Mrs. Diken really got them into the groove, and what a joy to see how much they enjoyed learning something new. Just by looking at the picture, you get the feeling that they won’t forget that letter sound!
We ended the week with the Father / Daughter Dance, which was held in the gym. Thank you to the PTA for sponsoring a wonderful evening. The girls were dressed so beautifully, and you could feel how proud the Dads were to be with them. The decorations were pink and perfect, and the snacks were delicious. Attending these events confirms the value we place on family, and how important it is to continuously build and support these relationships.
Congratulations to our second graders as they received their First Reconciliation yesterday. They were prepared (and a little bit nervous!), and we are SO proud of them as they take this next step in their religious formation. Thank you to Miss Schreier for helping them on this sacramental journey!
As our sign at the front of the school says, “We can do great things together.” Great things are happening each day in all our classrooms, even though you only see a little bit here each week. The first graders are reading beautifully, the fourth grade is learning long division, and the eighth grade is preparing for Confirmation. Together, the faculty, staff, students, and parents are doing great things every day, proving Our Lady of Sorrows is a great place to be a kid!
