Ever consider offering your time and talent to the parish as a cantor or member of the choir? Our choir, now a group of 17, would welcome a few additional voices. We would like to see the ranks of cantors increase as well.
It is an honor and pleasure for me to work with the dedicated volunteers who serve in the parish music ministry. Through training and practices, I also learn so much about our community and the love that our parishioners have for the parish.
Here are a few points to ponder:
If you can sing and are comfortable facing a crowd, consider being a cantor. Cantors practice as a group and privately using recorded media.
If you can sing and prefer not to face a crowd, please consider choir participation. Our choir presently needs members to sing at various "levels." We especially need altos—female singers who have a lower range, and bass/baritones—male singers who have a deeper, lower range. Our choir sings twice a month at Mass. Practices are on Thursdays before a scheduled Sunday. Additional practices are scheduled to prepare for the Christmas and Easter festivities.
If you feel you have limited vocal talent but like to make music, consider joining the Bell Choir. Pat Potavin, our Bell Choir Director, would love to have you as part of this special group. Practices are held every Tuesday from September through the first week in June.
If you play a musical instrument, consider joining our Instrumental Ensemble. Presently composed of guitar and piano, additional instruments—violins, flutes, clarinets, percussion instruments—would be very welcome. The Ensemble assists at a monthly Mass and has a monthly practice.
If you are interested in any of these components of our Music Ministry, please see me after Mass or send me an email at
[email protected].
You are also invited to come to an Information Night on October 8 at 7:30 PM in the Church Hall at Our Lady of Sorrows. Come meet our choir members who carry out their service with faith and great fun!
Saint Augustine reminds us:
"When we sing, we pray twice." Let us take up this challenge and raise our song unto the Lord.
