St. Luke tells us that “Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart.” As we peer into Our Lady’s interior life, the liturgy tells us that her heart is “wise”—understanding like no other person the meaning of the Scriptures. Her heart is “immaculate,”—immune from any stain of sin. It is also “docile”—because she submitted so faithfully to God’s will. It is “humble”—for she was gentle and lowly.” Mary’s heart was “simple,”—free from all duplicity and full of truth. Hers was a heart that is also “firm” and “ready”—in accepting God’s will. Above all, Mary’s heart is the Temple of the Holy Spirit. As we honor her, may we become a more worthy temple of God’s glory.
