Tomorrow our nation observes a holiday to mark the birthday of civil rights leader Rev. Martin Luther King (1929-1968). A Nobel Prize recipient, Dr. King helped millions of Americans turn against racism and violence. He helped to change unjust policies and practices through peaceful marches, boycotts and his powerful addresses. His leadership brought about important civil rights legislation. He was shot and killed in Memphis (TN) in April 1968. May this holiday be marked by our prayer for mutual respect among all peoples, and justice and peace in our nation.
