Following the apparitions of Our Lord to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, a French Visitation nun, the Church established the liturgical feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In these experiences, she was given to know the need for reparation for sin and to respond to Christ’s love. Our Lord asked her to promote the practice of frequent Holy Communion, especially on the First Friday of every month, and to establish a feast day on the Friday following the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. By long tradition, the entire month of June is dedicated to honoring the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
