Thursday, August 22: Feast of the Queenship of Mary Venerable Pius XII established this feast in 1954. The dogma of the Assumption, which we celebrated last week, leads in a natural way to the Feast of Mary’s Queenship. Since the first centuries, Christian art has represented Mary as Queen, surrounded by angels and seated on a royal throne. Sometimes, she is shown being crowned by her Son. Popular prayers invoke Mary:
Salve Regina, Ave Regina Caelorum, Regina Caeli. Mary’s royalty stems from her Son, Jesus Christ the King, who possesses total and absolute power over all creation.
