Our Lady of Sorrows School had a field trip to Applebee's! Last Tuesday, our Seventh Grade students bundled themselves for a brisk fall morning walk. Led by our middle school faculty, Maureen Tuohy, they walked and enjoyed their time together. Our art teacher and project coordinator, Kim Bowers, had packed her car well before the 7:50 morning prayers had begun. We were ready for a project! Applebee's graciously offers our students the opportunity to showcase their creative skills. Working in teams, they carefully more the tables away from the windows and then recreate their paper sketches on the windows using tempera paints.
I know you would have been so proud to see them in action! They delicately painted each piece of window artistry, and then they started the process of cleanup! No job is done until the cleanup is complete, and OLS studentss undertand this! They wiped each window sill, washed their brushes, and took a second look at each sink to ensure it was left as clean as they had found it. As I admired the windows, I offered a compliment to a team. In response I heard, "This isn't only our work. Zach is getting ssupplies; he worked on this too!" How beautiful to hear their generosity and care for each other.
Of course, no trip to Applebee's would be complete without a great meal, and the staff made sure this was in place! Imagine a restaurant full of middle school students. Now imagine them being our own OLS students. Everyone heard the voices saying, "Thank You" and "Please." They all waited until everyone was served before eating, but didn't start before they offered their thanks to our Lord.
Yes, a field trip to Applebee's can be quite an exciting experience, and truly a learning experience. Now, be sure to stop by Applebee's. Share the joy of our students, check out their talents, and most of all be sure to share at the restaurant, "Hey, these are our OLS kids. Thanks for hosting them."
