The Community Women’s Center of America, supported by the Legacy of Life Foundation, helps mothers and families who have decided to choose life and carry their pregnancy to term by providing “ongoing advocacy”: nine months of pre-natal support. They help with housing, clothing, food, childcare, baby supplies, and resources, etc., so that a mother and her family know they are not alone.
That support does not end once a baby is born. One of the major ways in which CWCA provides this ongoing support is through their Star program. The Star program provides three years of Parenting Programs which are unique and vital to the success of families. Star encourages and develops life skills, provides education, and assists with financial planning. Recent classes have included sewing, ceramics, cooking, budgeting, parenting skills and relationship discussions.
The twice weekly program includes transportation to the session as needed, lunch for mom, and babysitting by volunteers. Friendships and child rearing discussions are shared with other moms. Mothers are “incentivized” by being awarded Stars for each session they attend. The Stars can be used to make purchases at the Star Program Boutique for new baby clothes, diapers, and other basic supplies. These programs provide the needed support and respites for moms to give them the energy and hope to know that they can provide their children with the best possible environment for their development.
Diane Blenke, Parenting Support Programming Coordinator noted, “The Star program empowers women to truly embrace motherhood, and affords them the dignity to provide for their children by earning supplies. The moms encourage each other and educate each other through their own shared experiences. It’s beautiful to see the transformations that take place over time.”
We need your help. If you can, please donate generously to the Legacy of Life Bottle Drive the weekend of October 12-13, and help support these vital programs. Please also consider offering your prayers in support of the mothers and families contemplating abortion, and for their counselors, so that they may choose life.
