One of the questions asked when we have a medical procedure is whether or not we have a "living will" or "directives for health care." This instrument provides a person the opportunity to give direction non end-of-life care. An advance directive is a "Living Will" that states your intentions about your end-of-life care; or a Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care (sometimes called a "Proxy Directive"), which also states your intentions, but gives someone of your choice the legal authority to make health care decisions should you not be able to do so yourself. You trust this person to make the most prudential decisions possible in light of your own wishes. A Catholic would desire that such decisions be made in accord with the teachings of the church.
These are available at our parish office and in both our churches. At Our Lady of Sorrows, they are in the literature racks at the elevator entrance (church level) and the sacristy entrance. At St. Anthony they may be found in the rack at the elevator door (church level). Please feel free to take one.
