Celebrated by His Excellency, The Most Reverend David M. O’Connell, CM
Monday, April 15, at 7:30 pm Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine Freehold
During this sacred liturgy, the priests of the diocese renew the promises made at their ordination. The holy oils used for the sacraments are consecrated by the bishop and are then brought to the parishes and chaplaincies of the four county Diocese of Trenton. These are:
Oil of Catechumens—this is used for the anointing candidates preparing for baptism to strengthen them to resist the power of Satan and evil in all its forms.
Oil of the Sick—through the anointing of their head and hands, the sick receive experience the compassion of Christ and his saving love in body, mind and soul.
Sacred Chrism—this mixture of olive oil and balsam is used to anoint the newly baptized, those who are confirmed, and newly ordained priests. It is also used for the consecration of an altar and the church building.
These holy oils will be formally presented to our parish at the beginning of the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday.
