During weekend liturgies, it is our custom (as in most parishes) to have two members of the assembly present the gifts of bread and wine at the preparation of the gifts. This practice expresses the assembly’s participation in the Eucharistic offering. Sharing in the Priesthood of Christ by baptism, it symbolizes our willingness to enter into a holy exchange with God: by offering to God what He has given to us, we pray that we might merit to receive Christ Himself in the Eucharist.
We encourage parishioners to take part in this “offertory procession.” Those wishing to do so should be dressed appropriately and proceed to the gift table (St. Anthony: at the cross aisle; OLS: at the last pew, central nave) immediately following the Universal Prayer (petitions). Very often parishioners appreciate presenting the gifts when the Mass is offered for a family member or friend. Kindly advise one of the ushers prior to Mass of your intention to take up the gifts.
