The Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Sorrows/Saint Anthony Parish has for over 50 years served the spiritual, social and educational needs of the men of the parish. It is the men’s parish religious organization, honoring the name of Jesus Christ, as reflected in the Pledge below. Annual dues are $10, additional donations are appreciated. With the dues we primarily support the 8th grade graduates of our grammar school, giving at times 4 scholarships of $100 each per year.
We also support 10 Charitable Activities, namely, Morality in Media, Catholic Charities of Trenton, Martin House, Angel’s Wings, Right To Life, Mount Carmel Guild, Divine Word Fathers, Columban Fathers, Adopt-A-Family and the Retired Religious Fund. We have also at times conducted basketball tournaments for the school students‘ fathers, called the “OLS Tournament of the Grades“.
Recently we began a program during our meetings of 45-minute discussions of religious, inspirational and motivational materials provided by the Christopher Movement. Their motto is “Better to Light a Candle than to Curse the Darkness.“ We fully subscribe to that belief.
The Holy Name Society has been meeting in our parish since before we were combined, and continues to meet regularly. Our Society season runs from October to May; we currently meet on the second Wednesday of those months. Look for our meeting notices in the parish Sunday Bulletin or call our President through the parish office. All men of the parish are invited to join us. Meetings are held in the Church Library in the basement of the Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
The Holy Name Pledge
(A perfect guide for everyday living)
Blessed be God.
Blessed be his Holy Name.
Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true Man.
Blessed be the Name of Jesus.
I believe O Jesus that Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
I proclaim my love for the Vicar of Christ on earth.
I believe all the sacred truths which the Holy Catholic Church believes and teaches.
I promise to give good example by the regular practice of my faith.
In honor of his Divine name I pledge myself against perjury, blasphemy, profanity, and obscene speech.
I pledge my loyalty to the flag of my country, and to the God-given principles of freedom, justice, and happiness for which it stands.
I pledge my support to all lawful authority both civil and religious.
I dedicate my manhood to the honor of the Sacred Name of Jesus Christ and beg that he will keep me faithful to these pledges until death.
