Heavenly Father, We come before you today to ask your blessing on our brothers, whom you have called to the Sacrament of Holy Orders.
Lord Jesus, We ask that you support them with your presence and fill them with grace to serve you faithfully.
Gracious Spirit, Unite us in service with those whom you have called. Open our hearts to encourage our brothers and sons to pursue your calling. Open their hearts to hear your call to this most Holy Sacrament. Amen.
A Priesthood Sunday Prayer
O Jesus, our great High Priest, hear our humble prayers on behalf of your priests, Monsignor Gervasio, Fr. Carter, and Fr. Jean. Give them a deep faith, a bright and firm hope and a burning love that will ever increase in the course of their priestly life.
In their loneliness, comfort them in their sorrows, strengthen them in their frustrations, point out to them that it is through suffering that the soul is purified, and show them that they are needed by the Church, they are needed by souls, they are needed for the work of redemption.
O loving Mother Mary, Mother of Priests, take to your heart your sons who are close to you because of their priestly ordination and because of the power that they have received to carry on the work of Christ in a world that needs them so much. Be their comfort, be their joy, be their strength, and especially help them to live and to defend the ideals of consecrated celibacy.
Prayer to St. Joseph for Priests
O illustrious patriarch St. Joseph, who carried the infant Jesus in thy blessed arms and who, during the space of 30 years, lived in the most intimate famiiarity with him, take under thy powerful protection those whom he has clothed with his authority and honored with the dignity of his priesthood, whom he has charged to continue his mission, to preach his Gospel, and to dispense everywhere his graces and blessings. Sustain them in their fatigues and labors; console them in their pains; fortify them in their combats; but above all, keep far from them all the evils of sin.
Obtain for them the humility of St. John the Baptist, the faith of St. Peter, the zeal and charity of St. Paul, the purity of St. John, and the spirit of prayer and recollection of which thou, my dear saint, art the model, so that, after having been on earth, the faithful dispensers of the Mysteries of thy foster Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, they may in heaven receive the recompense promised to pastors according to the Heart of God. Amen.
Another Priesthood Sunday Prayer
Divine Grace, which always heals that which is infirm and supplies that which is lacking, has called our beloved brothers to sacred ministry. Let us pray that they be confirmed and strengthened with the grace of the Holy Spirit. Fill them with grace and counsel, that they may love you with all their hearts, all their minds, and all their strength. Grant them irreproachable conduct, steadfast faith, and good works so that they may help and guide your people with unselfish motivation.
Grant them wisdom, let their minds be sober and watchful, so that they may be filled with works of healing and words of instruction. May they teach your people in meekness and serve you in holiness with an undivided mind and a willing soul. May they be the light of your only begotten Son that the word of your gospel may be spread and your name may be glorified in every creature. May they serve at your holy altar with pure hearts and good consciences. Grant that they may prosper in all your commandments and the keeping of your laws, so that they may be able to minister joyfully on the day of your coming.
